This Privacy Policy explains what information Daap ("we", "us") collects when you use getdaap.com and the Daap apps, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Daap you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
- Account details you provide: email address, name, date of birth, gender, and country.
- Location: because Daap is hyperlocal, we use your approximate location (from your device or IP address) to show content near you.
- Content you create: posts, replies, likes, bookmarks, reports, and profile information.
- Usage and device data: log data, device and browser type, and basic analytics needed to run and secure the service.
- Sign in with Google: if you choose it, Google shares your Google account ID, email address, name and profile photo with us; sign-in is refused if Google has not verified the email address. We use them only to create your account or sign you in, to link your Google sign-in to a Daap account with the same email address, and as your first profile photo, which you can change. We never receive your Google password, and we do not keep Google's sign-in tokens.
How we use your information
To provide and personalize the hyperlocal feed, to operate accounts and authentication, to moderate content and keep the community safe, to send service emails (such as verification and password resets), and to protect against abuse and fraud. We also use your listings' titles and descriptions, and the text of your posts, to generate hidden topic keywords that help people find them.
Third-party services
We rely on a small set of trusted providers to run Daap:
- Google reCAPTCHA — protects sign-in, sign-up and other sensitive actions from abuse. Its use is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
- Google Firebase — powers real-time notifications and related features.
- Google Maps & Places — powers location search and geocoding.
- Amazon Web Services — hosts the service, sends email (SES), and stores uploaded media.
- OpenAI — checks the posts, replies and listings you publish for harmful content, and checks job listings for signs of a recruitment scam; reads the title and description of each business, community and job listing you create or edit, and the text of your posts, to generate hidden topic keywords and detect their language; turns the short text you type into a job listing's title and description when you ask it to draft one; and reads documents you upload to create job listings from them. OpenAI processes this content only to provide these features and never receives your account details, such as your email address or date of birth. The model that matches searches by meaning runs on our own servers.
Cookies & local storage
We use cookies and browser local storage to keep you signed in, remember your language and theme, and operate security features. You can clear these in your browser, though some features may stop working.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
Your choices & rights
You can access and update your profile in the app, and you can request deletion of your account and associated data. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information.
Children
Daap is not directed to children under the age permitted by your local law, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
